I had the great pleasure of touring Spoonflower this past Thursday morning. If you haven’t heard of Spoonflower yet, let me tell you about it. Spoonflower allows you to create, upload, and custom print your own fabric designs. How cool is that? Want big yellow polka dots for your living room curtains? Design it on your computer using several different design software options, upload it to Spoonflower, place your order, and your custom printed fabric will be delivered to you in 10-14 days. Want yellow and white stripped wall paper to go with those new curtains? No problem. They print wallpaper and wall decals as well.
Want to try your hand a fabric design? Not only do you have the flexibility to design your own fabric for purchase, but they also sponsor weekly fabric design contests — some even with a prize of becoming a fabric designer for a major fabric manufacturer. In addition, you can sell your designs to others on Spoonflower and you get a portion of the proceeds.
Becca met me at the door and gave me a personal tour through the facility. The office is beautifully decorated with the fabric and wallpaper they print there. They have 16 or so fabric printers, several wallpaper and wall decal printers, and a couple of machines that set the color. Everything else is done manually — cutting, sorting, and worldwide shipping. Each workstation has an iPad so that each order can be tracked during the process. They have recently started offering free classes as well. I think I might try a few of them. Thanks Becca for the great tour!
I have several fabrics available that I have designed. Link here or search daisymeadow under designers. I will be participating in some of the challenges this year, and have other design ideas, so others will be available occasionally as I get time.
